1969 Chevy el Camino Restoration Project - Item # 0047
This is truly my pride and joy. I purchased this car while living in Washington state over fifteen years ago. I am the third owner, having bought it from the second owner who was a car lot owner in Seattle. I brought it to Wisconsin in 1990 and had it stored for the next five years. Although the paint was checking on the hood, the vinyl top was very faded, and the after market wheels were looking crappy, this was still a great looking car. It was still a pleasure to drive and everything was still nice and tight. I decided to have the car repainted and the project grew and gobbled up my budget. The bodymen and painters finished putting it in primer and I've had it stored, in it's present condition, ever since.
The folks that were doing the work (Badger Auto) removed all the trim and glass and stripped the surface finish to the original primer. Certain areas were sandblasted, like the insides of the front fenders (front clip has been removed), under the rockerpanels, etc. to thorougghly clean any hard to get places. There were only two small areas where rust has been replaced with new metal - the lower right rear quarter panel and the top of the windshield opening on the drivers side. Both these spots were aproximately 2 inches by 6 inches in size. The rest of the body is solid. A high tech paint, POR 15 (http://www.por15.com/), has been used extensively on the insides of panels, fenders, doors, etc. to stop any surface rust and seal the metal. The entire interior floor area has had this finish applied (See Photo). It is an excellent finish and the strongest finish I know of. There was some body filler used before the primer coat but this was very minimal. Any dings and smoothing of the new metal is all it consisted of. The body, front clip parts, etc. were then all primed. That's when I ran out of money and the body shop wanted it's space for their paying customers. I have had it in storage ever since (inside a sealed building), never having the time to get it ready for it's finish coat of paint
Here are some of the mechanicals about the car. It is a 1969 Chevrolet el Camino. It may be classed and licensed as a truck in some states and as an auto in others. It's original finish was Forest Green and it had a black vinyl landeau top. The engine is the original 350 CID 2BBL V8. It has the original three speed automatic transmission. The drive train and steering is in excellent condition. All the bushings and rubber mounts are all in tact. I tell you, this one drives like a new vehicle (better than most). It is completely stock except for the interior guages (Volts, Amps, Water Temp, Oil Pressure, and Manifold Vacuum) mounted under the dash and the Camaro steering wheel. Nothing fancy there. The interior is all original black vinyl with a bench seat. There is a couple seams beginning to tear on the drivers side of the seat. Otherwise the interior is original and in mint shape. The original carpet is almost like new. Suprising that there is over 150,000 miles on this vehicle. Everything is included with this car. All the chrome and trim are here and in very good condition. The chrome bumbers are in very good condition. Some chrome trim around the top of the bed have been dented. I had a hard reinforced fiberglass cover that covered all this (shown in Photos). It is complete and included with the vehicle. The plastic (original) grille has one small piece broken out )See Photos). It has been a long time since I drove this vehicle, but I remember the great feeling of comfort and control. I especially liked the responsiveness and power of a V8 engine. The engine is smooth running and does have considerable power compared to modern vehicles. It was never a hard starter, and never, ever, failed to perform. If I had money to finish this project, I would never be selling. One may never see a car, let alone an el Camino, that's over thirty years old and in a condition as good as this one is.
This is one of the rarer autos from the late sixties. Very well maintained and cared for, it retains it's integrity as a classic well built machine - 100% Made In The U.S.A. I know that after the finish paint is applied, and all the pieces are put back together, this car will win show after show. It's value will raise to over $10,000.00 easily. I was offered more than half that just before the restoration was started, and happily turned it down. My only hope now is that a true lover of old metal will get the car, put some pleasurable time into it, enjoy it's great ride and feel, and appreciate it as much as I have.
This is a very great and rare item, it is complete and everything works. There is assembly required, as described above and evident in the photos. I've purchased some new assembly pieces (front clip mounting kit, gaskets and mounts, and other minor pieces) that are included as well as a brand new windshield (still in factory box).

The photos above were taken before the restoration project began. The pictures below were taken earlier this month. You can see in the photos that the primer finish is applied. You can also notice the interior floor area has absolutely zero rust. In many places the original factory primer is still intact and there is no rust. This is a very clean vehicle. What isn't evident in the photos is the detailing done in the engine compartment (firewall, frame, and suspension). No detailing has been done on the original motor.

Here are photos of some tags. The first photo shows the engine stamping and the VIN tag. Notice that the numbers do match.. The second photo is the body tag located above the firewall.
